Hacking the Rockstar Attitude

In Communication, Leadership, Mindset by talkforce

by Kim Singline

This week, I received an invitation from our lovely talkforce MD, Chris, to attend a keynote on all things leadership, engagement and performance, delivered by a man named Mark Schulman, here from LA due to his current gig of touring the world with PINK, as her drummer! I must admit, I had my doubts: I wondered how well-informed a muso could possibly be about these topics….

As Mark took the audience on a captivating journey, teaching us how to incorporate rock & roll philosophy, principles and swagger in our lives and businesses to boost performance and purpose, I realised my doubts were completely unfounded. Not only has Mark had the opportunity to work closely, touring and recording, with many incredibly successful rockstars for decades (prior to his longstanding work with PINK, I’m talking Billy Idol, Foreigner, Cher, Stevie Nicks, Richard Marx, Tina Turner and Velvet Revolver, to name but a few!), but he has illustriously studied WHAT these people do to find, harness and maintain success. He was clearly incredibly well-read, drawing on a range of philosophy and positive psychology influences.

Mark is a true example of someone who is Living on Purpose. Each and every member of the audience was literally on the edge of their seats, with huge smiles on their faces, from start to finish. It was a beautiful gift to watch someone so clearly truly passionate about what they do – every word that Mark spoke, and every note that he played on the drum kit – was utterly heartfelt. He knew his WHY and it showed in every part of the presentation.

My biggest takeaway? EVERYTHING in your life is a performance, whether anyone is watching or not. Every note matters! Cultivating an attitude of gratitude, boldness and positivity can be done in each and every moment… and the onus is on each and every one of us to actively shift our attitude to one that allows us to embrace life’s highs – and gracefully navigate life’s lows – and be the very best version of ourselves.

In between touring, Mark is a highly sought out speaker (and rightfully so!), as well as a published author. More information is available at http://markschulman.com/

A huge thank you to talkforce’s community partner, The Reach Foundation, for hosting this amazing evening.
