Kat Thomas: It’s a commonly held misconception that to influence someone, you need to persuade them. Actually, what you need to do is listen to them and understand them first. Once we listen to somebody and once we understand where they’re coming from, only then do we really understand enough about what makes them tick to be able to change their opinion or to get them to do something different.
